Avex, Docomo to Run New Anime on Japanese Mobile Phones

I’ve seen this news some times ago, but it was only a plan. Now it’s being realised when I write this. One of Japanese biggest mobile phone service provider, NTT Docomo, has announced the launch of BeeTV, a television channel for mobile phones, on April 1. BeeTV will be run by Avex Tsūshin Hōsō, a joint venture of the music/media production company avex entertainment and NTT Docomo.

The channel will transmit three series of anime shorts: Azabu Jū-ban Gakuen, Shiawase no Hitsuji, and Suzu-3-tarō.

Azabu Jū-ban Gakuen

Azabu Jū-ban Gakuen

Azabu Jū-ban Gakuen will launch in May as a series of 36 one-minute episodes that updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Shiawase no Hitsuji series of 100 five-minute episodes will premiere new episodes every day starting in May. Suzu-3-tarō’s 24 two-minute episodes will begin running in June with new episodes every Monday and Thursday. (ann)

Which I think it’s a strange business strategy. I mean, why don’t Docomo get Kadokawa instead of Avex? Surely Avex is one of the largest entertainment company there. But Avex’s main business is on music. They do anime song too yeah, but it’s anime songs, not the anime series. Is this means Avex wants a piece of anime market share? Anime, Manga and Idols are three hugh money source in Japan. So yeah, it’ll be ridiculous if they don’t want a piece of the market share lol.

Well maybe if there’s a lot of people subscribe to the service, BeeTV can get enough money to buy license of famous series. I don’t know about it though, watching anime on my mobile phone’s small screen? I think I prefer HDTV.

What do you think? If there’s a mobile phone at your place offering an anime-tv service, would you subscribe to it?

Plot Summary: Due to his rough appearance, Takasu Ryuji, a second grader, is thought of as a juvenile delinquent. One day, he encounters a new classmate, Aisaka Taiga also known as “Tenori Taiga” (palmtop tiger) because she is very short, selfish, quick-tempered, and unstoppable.
When Ryūji discovers that Taiga has a crush on Yūsaku, and Taiga finds out about Ryūji’s affections towards Minori, Ryūji suggests that they cooperate to win the objects of their affections.
